Services provided by Ms. von Brachel include personal property appraisals of photographs for charitable donation, estate valuation, and insurance. Appraisals are objective, well-researched and compliant with the Uniform Standards for Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
Charitable Donation: The Internal Revenue Service requires that a deduction for donations of art with a fair market value of $5,000 or more be supported by a written appraisal by a qualified appraiser. For objects valued at $20,000 or more, the donor must attach a complete copy of the signed appraisal along with their tax return.
Estate Valuation: The Internal Revenue Service also requires that an estate valued at a certain amount ($5,000,000 as of 2012) be accompanied by a fair market value appraisal of tangible personal property written by a qualified appraiser.
Insurance: An insurance appraisal assesses the retail replacement value of an artwork or other personal property so that the owner can maintain the appropriate coverage with their insurer. A properly researched and written appraisal will help protect owners from being inadequately compensated in the event of damage or loss.
